Anywhere from 75-115 lbs. approximately. They are full grown at 2 years of age. Most of their growth being in the first year.
Our first litter at 11 months came in with weight and heights: Females: 65-80 lbs 30-31 in tall, Males: 95-105 lbs 30-33 in tall.
With a mixed breed you have a good mix of genetics which can override genetic health concerns common in a pure bread where the recessive traits are more prominent. It can wash out those predispositions such as hip dysplasia, for example. However, being a mixed breed is not a cure all. It is always good to keep in contact with your vet as you work towards keeping them as healthy as possible. As they say with a good diet, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Because our breed is mixed, we don't test for hip dysplasia, liver/pancreas issues, or other maladies unless buyer requests them. We have DNA tested our breeding pair which includes breed genetically prone issues and were cleared for these potential problems. They have passed all health inspections.
It does cost more to own a dog this size.
They eat more and we are adamant about making sure they are served good quality food to guarantee a healthy life. Each dog varies as to how much they eat. Being a wolfhound cross they will have a higher metabolism so we don't worry about limiting their food. We put ours in a feeder, for our adults, and they eat however much they want. However, there are specifications with recommend feeding amounts on the bags of dog food.
They do require grooming. Each dog is different as to how often they need to go in for a wash and cut. Our pups take after their mother. It is easy to brush and wash but may need an occasional trim.
Other than that the costs are similar, vet bills, chew toys, bedding, dog house, etc.
This breed seems to have a 'breed specific' personality. When they are small, some take longer to come out of their shell, but they all do eventually. They are happy, sweet and loving dogs. They are intelligent, playful and big snuggle bugs. They are trainable and loyal. They are good with children and other animals.
At six weeks we set aside time with several puppies and take videos. We send them to our buyers in the order of purchase to pick out their puppy. We tell what we've observed as far as aptitude and energy with each puppy and let you watch us interact with them.
We feed our dogs a variety of Nulo Dog Food. We use both the wet and dry dog food. We also supplement with Omega Chews as treats, among other items.
The wet dog food is Nulo Freestyle Wet Dog Food Topper. It is high in protein, 100% natural ingredients, comes in different flavors and our dogs love it. We have found that our dogs absolutely love the Nulo wet dog food and their coats have gotten softer and more silky since we started feeding this to them.
We are trying a different brand of Omega's right now called Ultimate Omega 3-6-9
We start the pups on the Ancient grains puppy formula for all breeds. You may buy it at your local pet store, Cal Ranch, Amazon, and Chewy. We also recommend the "large breed" puppy formula, which is salmon flavored and grain free. They also have a large breed puppy formula with ancient grains. We find they do better at first with the extra calories from the grain. Follow the recommended servings on the bag.
There is also a wet dog food for Puppy from the Nulo brand.
We also recommend Omega chews, You may use Nulo chews, they have several varieties of chews. We are trying a different brand Ultimate Omega 3-6-9.
After your puppy receives shots, we have been feeding them bentonite clay sprinkled on their food. Please make sure that it is food grade. This is supposed to help remove the heavy metals from their body.
Please note: We are not vets or specialists. These views come from personal research and are only our recommendations and not necessarily approved by a vet. We are also not a sponsor of Nulo.
We can fly pups or do ground transportation after they are 8 weeks of age. Both flight and ground require an extra trip to the vet for official Health Certificates signed by the vet specific to flight or ground regulations. Extra costs are not included in the price of your puppy.
Flights: Not all airlines are flying dogs since Covid. Our dogs are too big to fly in the cabin. They must fly cargo with few exceptions regarding service animals. Cargo compartments are pressurized and temperature controlled. However, there is ground temp that must be taken into consideration. It must be above 20 degrees and below 85 degrees in both departure and arrival locations. We require flights must be a direct flight and have zero layovers.
Ground: May take 1-7 days for a puppy to arrive. Pups are walked at regular intervals and given opportunities to relieve themselves. We prefer to work with a few transporters whom we are familiar with. They take less dogs at a time. Costs vary with distance, however a crate is not required.
The pups are on average, 19 inches tall and weigh around 20 lbs when they are old enough to come home. They need a kennel that will be big enough to stand up straight w/o hitting their head, turn around and lay down comfortably. The crate, according to Alaskan Airlines, and American Airlines is: model 300-400 depending on the weight of the dog. Here is a link that meets requirements on Amazon
Similar crates may be found on Chewy.com and at Walmart.com
You also need the Petmate Kennel Travel Kit
We can order it for you, cost needs to be covered before purchase, or you may order it and ship it to us. We will start crate training your puppy in prep for the flight.
We recommend finding toys specified for aggressive chewers and or large breed puppies.
Do not give your dogs, chicken bones or large animal bones, especially if they've been cooked as they ruin their teeth.
Raw hide is good. I would recommend some toys but the last good set I bought is no longer available.
